How do I install Kaltura Capture?

This article describes the system  requirements for Kaltura Capture and how to install or launch it.

Kaltura Capture allows you to record videos on your personal computer  and then easily share them with your anyone. After a quick download and  installation of the app, Kaltura Capture can record anything on your  computer screen, along with your voice and webcam. The app is  simple to set up and use, allowing you to concentrate on your lecture recordings.

System Requirements

If you're interested in recording your screen or webcam with Kaltura  Capture make sure your machine meets Kaltura Capture's minimum  specifications:

Operating system OS:
Windows 7 - 10 (64 bit) and above
Mac OSX 10.10 and above
Memory 4GB RAM
Storage 1GB minimum available (we recommend 10GB available)
Processor Minimum Intel i5

You will need administrator rights to install Kaltura Capture. If you don't have admin rights, contact your department's IT professional. Note that Kaltura Capture  is the software that Kaltura replaced CaptureSpace with in June 2019. If you used this previously, ensure you are accessing the updated version, as per the steps below.

Installing and/or Launching the Application

If  your computer meets the minimum specifications and you have admin rights you can install Kaltura Capture by following these directions.

  • Log into Blackboard
  • Locate the My Media link on your My NUI Galway tab
Kaltura Add Media
  1. To begin, choose Create Recording.  This will bring you to a page where you can download the Kaltura Capture application.  
  2. Click Add New -> Create recording

3. A new window will display. Click the link for the installer you want to use.

If you have the Kaltura Capture app already installed you can simply select Launch Application in the pop-up window .

Windows
  • In Windows double click the installer file to launch the installer.
  • The installation app will be added to your downloads folder.
  • Locate the installation app and double-click on it  
  • Click "Run" to install Kaltura Capture            
  • Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
  • When installation is complete, return to Blackboard or MediaSpace and click "+ Add New" and choose "Kaltura Capture" . Choose "Open KalturaCapture" to Launch the App. This step is needed to connect the Kaltura Capture app you just downloaded to your NUI Galway Kaltura account.          
Mac
  • In OSX drag the Personal Capture icon to the Applications folder of your machine.
  • Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
  • When installation is complete, return to Blackboard or MediaSpace and click "+ Add New" and choose "Kaltura Capture" . Choose "Open KalturaCapture" to Launch the App. This step is needed to connect the Kaltura Capture app you just downloaded to your NUI Galway Kaltura account.          

Mac OSX Catalina (10.15) requires additional permissions to run Kaltura Capture  successfully. To run Kaltura Capture, change the following settings:

System Preferences → Security & Privacy → General → (unlock the padlock) → Choose App Store and identified developers → (lock the padlock)

System Preferences → Security & Privacy → Privacy → (unlock the padlock) → Choose Camera → Check KalturaCapture (repeat this process for Microphone and Screen Recording) > (lock the padlock).
